Drywall Patch vs. Replacement: Which Do You Need?
Most damage is a patch, not a replacement. Here’s how we decide, and why patching is usually the faster, cleaner and cheaper fix.

A patch is the right fix when…
- The damage is a hole, dent, crack or popped fastener, even a large one
- Surrounding drywall is firm and dry
- A water stain is dry and the board underneath is still solid
- Tape or corner bead has failed along a section
Replacing a section makes sense when…
- Drywall is soft, crumbling or sagging from water
- There’s mold growth in the board (after remediation)
- A large area was cut open for plumbing, electrical or HVAC work
Even then, we replace only the damaged section, cut back to sound board and blended in, not the whole wall or room.
What we don’t do
We’re a patch company. We don’t hang drywall in new construction, finish basements or redo entire rooms. If your project needs that, we’ll say so up front.
Not sure which you need?
Send a photo. We’ll tell you whether it’s a patch or a section replacement, and give you a price, usually within the hour.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is a patch as strong as new drywall?
Yes, when it’s properly backed and taped. A professional patch is permanent.
Will a big patch show?
Not when it’s finished and texture-matched correctly. Larger patches simply get wider feathering.
